On short assessment visits or in certain circumstances you may need to book a hotel.

Church Street Hotel

This hotel is close and convenient (a 15 mins walk to the hospital). Rooms are small but very clean and comfortable. A good quality continental breakfast is served every day.

It’s important to note that there are a lot of stairs in the hotel, and no lift, so accessibility may be an issue for some.

Premier Inn London Brixton

434 Coldharbour Ln, Brixton, London SW9 8HH, London

Budget hotel located in the neighbouring area of Brixton this hotel is a 7-8 mins taxi journey, or a 30 minute walk from the hospital. If anyone has stayed in this hotel, please contact us to let us know the suitability and we’ll update this information here.

Longer Term Stay

Charitable Accommodation

There are some charitable trust accommodation options which CLDI families can avail of if available. They can be used for long or short stay based on availability. There is no charge but you can make a charitable donation if you wish.

Ronald McDonald House

Location:

The 6-9 Windsor Walk, Camberwell, London, SE5 8BB

Ronald McDonald house is at the back of Denmark Hill train station less than 5min walk from the hospital.

Una is the House manager for Ronald Mc Donald house and can be contacted on una.kularatnam@rmhc.org.uk. It is recommended you get in touch with Una is you know any advance dates for example when you get dates for assessment.

Facilities:

  • 26+ rooms – all en suite (some bath + shower, some shower only)

  • Clean and new, and a good option if you can avail of it.

  • Has a lift

  • TV in most rooms

  • Big shared kitchen where you have your own press & fridge/freezer space

  • Large dining room

  • Large washing and drying room for clothes including irons and ironing boards

  • WiFi

  • TV & computer room

  • Playrooms for kids with games, DVDs, colouring

  • 24 hour reception with printing facilities, can also book you taxis

  • When your child is discharged from the hospital they will move you to a bigger room if one is free.

  • Staff are great, they will try and help you however they can.

  • Doesn’t feels crowded.

Rhys Daniels Trust Flats 

Location:

Elmtree Court, 56 Valmar Rd, Camberwell, London SE5 9NH, UK

These flats are approximately 7-8 minutes walk from the hospital.

Facilities:

  • 2 flats available in Elmtree Court, a small private residential block of flats (so no reception or managed element).

  • Location is very good, another good option if you can avail of it.

  • One flat is on the ground floor and the second flat is on the first floor (up a flight of stairs, no lift available).

  • Other residents are quiet and it feels secure.

  • One bedroom in each flat, and a pull out sofa bed in the sitting room. Can accommodate 4 people if necessary, but it would be a squeeze.

  • There are full cooking facilities, and a large fridge/freezer.

  • A washing machine is provided in the flat, there is no dryer, but there is a clothes horse.

  • All bed linen is provided.

  • You can clean the flat yourself, or a cleaner will come once a week.

Short Term Lets

 If hotel accommodation isn’t suitable or if charity accommodation isn’t available, another option to consider is a short term let of an apartment nearby. Apartments and flats can be found on airbnb.com and booking.com.

Locations to look for accommodation:

Ideally the apartment would be in Camberwell/Denmark Hill so you are in walking distance of the hospital.

Other options to consider are:

  • Herne Hill. A nice local village, approx. 10-15 mins bus journey

  • East Dulwich: A nice local village, approx. 15-20 mins bus journey

  • Brixton: A busier area which may not feel as secure and is approx. a 20 mins bus journey

Citymapper app is a great app that to understand how long it will take you to get from A to B in London by using public transport and/or taxis, it also gives you an estimated taxi fare for your jouney.

  • Apartment: Lovewalk apartments are less than a 5 minute walk to the hospital.

We would recommend that you find out the full address and look at the area on Google Maps & Google Streetview to see if it is (a) suitable in terms of journey to the hospital and (b) looks safe and secure.
